Overview

Introduction

Nanotechnology is a rapidly expanding area of research with a huge potential to revolutionize our lives and to provide technological solutions to our problems in agriculture, energy, environment and medicine. It has the potential for practical applications and job creation in nearly every commercial sector and can unleash big business opportunities. The technology is helping to considerably improve, even revolutionize, sectors like information technology, homeland security, medicine, transportation, energy, food safety, and environmental science, among many others. During the development of nanotechnology, industries are likely to have high demands for the scientists, engineers, and technicians who will build and integrate the new ideas into processes and products.

Programme Outline:

In view of the vast applications and growing demand for Nanotechnologists IIS (Deemed to be University) has introduced a 5-year integrated program in Nanoscience and Technology This program imparts extensive multidisciplinary knowledge and skills to participate in the development, design, characteristics as well as application of nanomaterials. The program is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of the fundamental aspects of Nanoscience and Technology with an emphasis on synthesis, visualization and manipulation at the nanoscale. It is expected to prepare students for careers in nanomaterials, nanobiotechnology, and nanoelectronics industries. The syllabus is framed in accordance with the provisions of the New Education Policy- 2020 and the choice-based credit system (CBCS). The students exiting after completing one year of this course (Sem-I & Sem-II) having obtained 52 credits will get a Certificate in Nanoscience & Technology. The students exiting after completing two years of this course (Sem I - IV) having earned 124 credits will get a Diploma in Nanoscience & Technology. After completing three years of this course (Sem I - VI) having earned 156 credits the students will get a B.Sc. Degree in Nanoscience & Technology which will be equivalent to a General B.Sc. (Phy., Chem., Maths) since the current syllabi is equivalent to 70% of the credits/ syllabi of General B.Sc. (PCM). After completing four years of this course the student will get a general B.Sc. (PCM Degree plus P.G. Diploma) in Nanoscience & Technology. After completion of five years of this course and earning 258 credits the students will get an M.Sc. in Nanoscience & Technology which will be equivalent to an M.Sc. (Physics). The students can also enter the above programme according to the credit-based admission policy.

Objectives of the program:

1. This programme is designed to fulfill the requirement of manpower development needed for teaching Nanoscience & Technology at various levels of study and also for the creation of newly trained manpower required for ceramic, composite and materials-related industries of any scientific laboratory/ workshop/ institution.

2. Application of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology knowledge for the solutions of societal problems like environmental, industrial and health for sustainable development.

3. This program will benefit the students of this institution, to undertake Nanoscience and Nanotechnology as a way of life.
